| 穆索尔斯基的画家好友哈特曼，逝世一八七三年。为了纪念他的过世，在圣彼得堡建筑师协会的展览会场，展出了四百多幅哈特曼生前的画作。当时穆索尔斯基础在参观画展之后，有感而发，将其中几幅主题谱成钢琴曲。此作品原本不被人注意，直到一九二二年，波士顿交响乐团的音乐监督库塞维茨基请求拉威而改编成管弦乐演奏版后，才广为世人喜爱。这个版本被誉为当今最杰出的录音及演奏，必须珍藏的发烧级版本。 | ||
