	1959年由珍妮弗·维维安(Jennifer Vyvyan),莫妮卡·辛克莱(Monica Sinclair),佐治·托齐(Giorgio Tozzi)和扬·维克斯(Jon Vickers)主唱的激动人心的《弥赛亚》。有些音乐可以边干活边听，用不着当真，当成背景音乐即可，有些音乐却只能正襟危坐，竖起耳朵专心地“拜听”。“弥赛亚”就属于这类。或许，很多人只把它当成纯音乐作品来听，根本不懂里面的宗教内容。然而我还是要说，理解它的内容，才能更深地欣赏它。一个信仰耶稣的人，在这部受上帝启示而写成的作品中得到的感动，是外人无法想象的。美妙的旋律最多使人陶醉，而“弥赛亚”却能令人感恩、喜乐、使人心里有平安、使心灵颤栗，带人经历深刻的宗教体验。亨德尔的本意就是用音乐来赞美神。聆听的人也应怀着这样虔诚的心。听过好几种不同版本，最喜爱的，还是这个1959年的老版本。在比彻姆的指挥下，皇家爱乐乐团和合唱团营造出了一片圣洁的氛围。我们可以清楚地感受到每个参与演奏的音乐家都保持着圣徒般纯净的心，不含丝毫杂念。正如卡萨尔斯所说，如果心灵是美的，那么动作也是美的。我对参加这次演奏的音乐家们心怀敬意。<音乐爱好者>杂志比彻姆是英国音乐史上最著名的指挥家之一。他于1879 年出生在利物浦近郊的圣海伦斯，早年曾就学于罗尔萨学校和著名的牛津大学。比彻姆从小便自学音乐，而且在这方面颇具才能。1898 年，19 岁的比彻姆首次登台指挥了哈雷管弦乐团，举行了一次成功的音乐会，这便是他作为指挥家所迈出的第一步，其实，他所迈出的这一步的确有些偶然性，因为起初他一直是立志当一名作曲家的，然而在无意中跨入指挥艺术领域后，便一下子改变了他原来的想法。 1909 年，30 岁的比彻姆创建了以他自己的名字命名的“比彻姆交响乐团”，并开始更加积极地活跃在英国的交响乐舞台上。 1920 年左右，他曾指挥了一系列的歌剧演出，其中包括在著名的英国皇家科文持花园歌剧院的演出，从而开始正式跨入了歌剧指挥家的行列中。 1929 年，他曾在伦敦创办了“迪利亚斯音乐节”，开展了一系列的音乐活动。经过这大段时间的经历后，他已经开始成为英国音乐界中知名的指挥家了。从这段时期开始直到以后，他几乎与英国音乐界中的所有重大事件都有着联系，其威望也随着他涉及事物的广泛及高超的音乐技艺而逐渐的建立了起来。l932年，比彻姆亲手创立了后来蜚声与世的英国伦敦爱乐乐团，并且亲自担任了七年这个乐团的首席指挥。既伦敦爱乐乐团之后，他又于1946 年自费筹建了著名的英国皇家爱乐乐团，这次他更加呕心呖血，亲自担任了15 年这个乐团的常任指挥。且不说他在多年训练这两个乐团时所付出的心血，就单凭创建这两个举世闻名的大乐团，这本身的功绩就已经大得惊人了，更何况比彻姆还为英国交响音乐的发展做了大量其它的出色工作，因此，比彻姆获得“英国交响乐团之父”的名称的确是当之无愧的。
